November 2009 - we held our get-together meeting, worked on badges, planning, and designed and built bottle rockets! The rockets were made out of empty 20 oz plastic bottles, inversted to have a cone on top and air guides on the bottom, and strengthened with duct tape. We then took turns pressurizing to 80 psi, pulling the blug, and launching them in the cafeteria!
April 2009 - we held a GPS-based scavenger hunt, learned how to read maps, operate GPS.
March 2009 - we built race cars and participated in the Chittenden County race car races at the Champlain Valley Expo. Over 200 cub scouts from across all of northern Vermont showed up and raced their cars. Bleachers enabled parents to cheer on the cubs, and great fun and excitement was had by all!
February 2009 - we learned about woodworking and how to build pinewood derby race cars. We also completed our first badge. We then took our newly designed cars and raced them on a track in the cafeteria.
January 2009 - we learned about woodworking and how to build pinewood derby race cars. We also completed our first ba
December 2008 - We visited the Vermont National Gaurd, learned all about flying, and saw the special suits the pilots wear, saw some incredible flying video including re-ruel in the air, and saw the F16 airplanes up close and personal. Thanks to our cubmast Wiley!
November 13, 2008 - We started the meeting with the pledge of allegiance, the scout sign, and a few songs. The boys then learned all about archery from our new Cubmaster Wiley, and he showed them his own bow and showed them how to use it. We deisgned and built our own indoor bow and arrow. We made the bow by placing a larger rubber band on a clothing hanger. For the arrow, we used a 1 foot long cylindrical dowel (from any lumber or craft store), cut a knotch on one end to fit to the rubber band, and used super glue and tape to attached a suction cup on the end. Walt then lead the kids with setting up a target, and he took turns with them practicing our archery skiils.
OCTOBER 2008 - We started the Cub Scout program with a great turn out of over 20 kids! We designed and built bottle rockets, then took them outside and launched them with air power! We also discussed the cub scout program and opportunities for leadership and advancement.
